Description

Commemorative re-release of 'Iowa', the 2001 album from Slipknot. Includes bonus DVD. Roadrunner. 2004.

Right from the introductory shriek and grind of "(515)," you know Slipknot are deadly serious about making a real heavy metal album. Iowa is intimidating in its unforgiving heaviness. Produced to perfection by wunderkind Ross Robinson, it takes the best of Slayer as a starting point. "People = Shit," "The Heretic Anthem," and "New Abortion" are relentless and wholly brutal, but this is no mere thrash. "Disasterpiece" features a weird, hypnotic riff, while "Left Behind" comes across like a duet between Alice in Chains' Layne Staley and Slayer's Tom Araya. The rerecorded "Gently" builds slowly from industrial atmospherics to a punishing explosion of noise. The title track (also old and formerly known as "Killers Are Quiet") is a deeply unsettling heavy-metal "Midnight Rambler." Frontman Corey Taylor claims to have performed it naked and bleeding from self-inflicted wounds, which isn't hard to believe. This masterfully constructed collection is painfully raw and utterly compelling. --Dominic Wills

Summary: "more of the same slipknot....."

Every slipknot album is pretty much the same, even riff wise. Those saying this is the most relentless thing they have ever heard haven't listened to very much relentless music.

Summary: "A Nicely Produced, Yet Raw and Heavy, Sophmore Effort!"

This is one of my all-time favorite "nu-metal" cds and I still play it going down the road, preferably at midnight, cranking the stereo in an attempt to disturb all those lovers of hip-hop-rap-crap. A crowded driving lane during 5pm traffic is not sufficient if you are trying to drive and head-bang. Desolate night time driving is the way to go! BTW, just make sure you are not too wasted.. lol...

All kidding aside, this disc is a step-up in production quality since their first self-titled release, yet it is still very heavy and raw. Corey is one of the best heavy music singers of all time. He can growl, harmonize, and sing a very convincing ballad. A fine example is the song "My Plague". It is a fine display of how he can be brutal and lovely in his vocal range. The percussion and guitars come out nice and loud in the mix. I am not a fan of squeaky-clean/over-production and this album delivers!

Until then folks... I may be right, and I may be wrong, but thank you for reading!

Summary: "Listen Closely, you Silly Twits..."

I must be careful about how I educate the unfortunate anger addicts who think this band and disc are anything better than mediocre. The rage-aholics are too desperate to shout down any opposition or difference of opinion. So I'll be gentle with you tender, delicate kittens. OK? This band and disc are not even as good as the worst crap grunted out by Judas Priest or Iron Maiden, who at least realized how odd it is to have a room full of sweating, writhing young males all adoring them. Rob Halford certainly appreciated it, again and again. So you remember that, you men among men, as you pump your fists in the air and pump whatever else this music tells you to. This disc bites. AC/DC kicks its ass!!!! That's a homoerotic joke. Get it? You confused, disturbed sex farts are just so cute...

Summary: "Iowa"

I have three copies of Iowa, since i was 13 years old, that was five years ago. I have listened to all of their albums again, and again over the years. Iowa is my favorite album by Slipknot, and is in my top favorite five albums of all time. When I first started to listen to Slipknot back in August 2004, I started out with Vol 3 The Subliminal Verses, a neighbor of mine at the time let me borrow the album for about two weeks, and when they wanted it back I didn't want to, but I did, a few days later I bought my own copy and now I have the regular version released in 2004, and the special edition with two discs in 2005. Ever since then I have been following them closely. I also have three copies of Slipknot's self titled album. I wish Slipknot would go back into the studio, and make another Iowa which I think will never happen again. They should at lest re release Iowa in 2011 when it's been 10 years since the album was released. Iowa got me into death metal, I know Iowa isn't death metal, but this album is very intense. I hope Slipknot is around for many years to come, because I personally think they are one of the best bands in metal.
